Course Outline

Exercise 1 - Simple Passage
  • The first exercise consists of a passage of about 700 words. You will need to respond to 12 to 15 questions about it. The questions will either be multiple choice or in the form of a table to be completed testing your vocabulary, general comprehension of the text, etc.
Exercise 2 - Double Passages
  • The second exercise is similar to the fist one. It is composed of two passages of about 700 words each. You will need to respond to about 12 or 15 questions per passage. You will have 40 minutes to read and respond to the questions for the first and second text. The questions will either be multiple choice or in the form of a table to be completed testing your vocabulary, general comprehension of the text, etc.
Exercise 1 - University Life Conversation
  • You will hear a dialogue lasting from 2.5 to 5 minutes, in an academic context, between a student and a professor or a staff member. You will then need to respond to 6 questions about the audio.
Exercise 2 - Classroom Discussion
  • You will hear a lecture of 4 to 5 minutes presented by a professor about an academic subject. There will also be some interventions by students. You will then respond to 6 questions.
Exercise 3 - Lecture
  • You will hear a lecture of 4 to 5 minutes presented by a professor about an academic subject. You will then respond to 6 questions.
Exercise 4 - University Life Conversation
  • Exercise 4 is exactly the same as Exercise 1. The directions are therefore the same.
Exercise 5 - Classroom Discussion
  • Exercise 5 is exactly the same as Exercise 2. The directions are therefore the same.
Exercise 6 - Lecture
  • Exercise 6 is exactly the same as Exercise 3. The directions are therefore the same.
Exercise 1 - Familiar Topic
  • This question will ask you to talk about a person, an object, or an event that you are familiar with. You will have 15 seconds to prepare your response and 45 seconds to describe the situation by using personal examples.
Exercise 2 - Defend an Opinion
  • You will be asked a question about two situations or opinions. You will need to say which one you prefer and explain why. You will have 15 seconds to prepare your response and 45 seconds to respond by giving your opinion along with strong arguments.
Exercise 3 - University Life Summary
  • First, you will have 45 seconds to read a small text of about 100 words. Then, you will hear a dialogue of one to two minutes about the same subject, academic life. Next you will be asked about the text and the audio. You will have 30 seconds to prepare and 60 seconds to respond. Use the most important information from the text and audio to give your opinion.
Exercise 4 - Academic Summary
  • First, you will have 45 seconds to read a small text of about 100 words. Then, you will hear a dialogue of one to two minutes about the same subject, academic life. Next you will be asked about the text and the audio. You will have 30 seconds to prepare and 60 seconds to respond. Use the most important information from the text and audio, without arguing, to give your opinion and to compare the audio and text.
Exercise 5 - Conversation Summary
  • First, you will hear part of a conversation or lecture that could last up to 2 minutes. For the majority of the audio, a student is discussing a problem and a member of staff is attempting to help him. You will then be questioned about the audio. Your response will be evaluated based on your ability to transfer the information. You will have 20 seconds to prepare and 60 seconds to give your response.

  • First, you will hear part of a conversation or lecture that could last up to 2 minutes. You will then be questioned about the audio. Your response will be evaluated based on your ability to get across information. You will have 20 seconds to prepare and 60 seconds to give your response. Use the most important information to summarize the lecture.
Exercise 1 - Summary
  • You will need to respond to a question using a text and audio about an academic subject. You will have 3 minutes to read the text (that will be displayed while you write your responses) and the audio could last up to 2 minutes. Use the general ideas and important details to link the audio and the text. You will have 20 minutes to make an outline and write a response. The response should be between 150 and 225 words.
Exercise 2 - Essay
  • You will need to respond to a question about an everyday topic (education, social life, the environment, etc.). You will have 30 minutes to write an essay of 300 words. You will need to structure your response by using correct grammar and a large range of vocabulary.
